Ethics and Issues 2-3

1) Should wikis be allowed as valid sources for academic research?
Usually, wikis have sources in them to show that the information is trusted... but not always. I think if the wiki is sourced properly or kept up by a reputable source, then yes, it should be allowed.

2) Why or why not?
Like I said in the last answer, as long as the sources are good, it should be fine.

3) Would you submit a paper to your instructor that cites a wiki as a resource?
          I would not.

4) Why or why not?
Most teachers look down on Wikipedia as a source, and I 'd hate to get downgraded simply for using a specific site as a source.

5) What policies could wikis enforce that could garner more confidence from the public?
They could require sourcing to be used and somehow set up account validation for people to edit the articles. As it is, it's pretty easy to get around the precautions they have, and the articles can be edited to say almost anything.

6) If a wiki provided verification of the credentials of the author, would you trust the wiki more? Why or why not?
Yes. If the author of the history related articles was a certified historian, for example, that would be much better as a source than someone who's just a high school student trying to mess with people.
